We weren’t expecting to be full time residents here for at least another 5 years. But no one could have anticipated what 2020 would look like, and we’re beyond grateful to have landed where we are.
These images are my attempt to get to know this part of the world, because it’s a beautiful and interesting place. As a photographer I’m most often drawn to signs and structures – rarely people or activity. I like empty, quiet spaces because it helps me focus. I like to isolate objects that only feel out of place when you really stop and look – a for sale sign on a corner lot along a rural highway, a mannequin in a bathtub advertising an HVAC shop, or a mailbox with decorated with hand-painted roses. There’s always so much more going on than we see at first glance. Photography can make those glances endless. I’ll be adding to this series as things catch my eye, because the best way to get to know a place is by taking a good, long look.
